Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 8 February 2026
CareChecked is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and we continuously work to improve the accessibility of our platform.
Our Commitment
We believe that everyone has the right to access information about care services, regardless of ability. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is a core consideration in how we design and develop CareChecked. We are committed to:
- Meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards across all public-facing pages
- Regular accessibility audits and testing
- Training our development team on accessibility best practices
- Responding promptly to accessibility feedback from users
Screen Reader Support
CareChecked is designed to work with commonly used screen readers, including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver. We use:
- Semantic HTML elements throughout the site
- ARIA labels and roles where additional context is needed
- Descriptive alternative text for all meaningful images
- Properly structured headings to support navigation
- Skip-to-content links for efficient page navigation
Colour Contrast
We maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, in line with WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements. Our colour palette has been specifically chosen to ensure readability across different displays and for users with colour vision deficiencies. We do not rely on colour alone to convey information — all colour-coded elements include text labels or icons.
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements on CareChecked can be accessed using a keyboard alone. This includes:
- Navigation menus and links
- Form fields and buttons
- Dropdown menus and modal dialogues
- Accordion sections and tabs
- Search functionality
Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements to help keyboard users identify their current position on the page.
Responsive Design
CareChecked is fully responsive and works on devices of all sizes, including mobile phones, tablets, and desktop computers. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, we are aware that some areas may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. We are actively working to address these. If you encounter any accessibility barriers, please let us know so we can prioritise improvements.
