How We Verify
Last updated: 1 February 2026
Our Commitment to Trust
At CareChecked, trust is at the heart of everything we do. Every care provider listed on our platform has been through a rigorous verification process designed to give families confidence when choosing care. This page explains exactly what we check and how we check it.
What We Verify
Enhanced DBS Check
Every provider must hold a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We verify DBS certificates through the DBS Update Service where possible, or through manual review of the original certificate. We re-check DBS status annually for all active providers.
Identity Verification
We verify the identity of every provider using government-issued photo identification. For agencies, we verify the identity of the registered manager and confirm the organisation's legal registration.
Professional Qualifications
Where providers claim professional qualifications (e.g., NVQ, QCF, or degree-level qualifications in health and social care), we verify these with the issuing body or through official records. Only verified qualifications are displayed on provider profiles.
Insurance
We check that independent providers hold appropriate Public Liability Insurance and that agencies hold Employers' Liability Insurance. Insurance documents are reviewed for validity and adequate cover levels.
Regulatory Registration (Agencies)
Care agencies must provide evidence of their registration with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) or the equivalent regulatory body for their region. We cross-reference this with the CQC public register.
References
All verified providers must provide and have verified professional references. References are contacted directly by our verification team to confirm the provider's experience and conduct.
Our Verification Process
- Application: The provider submits their application along with all required documentation through our secure upload portal.
- Initial Review: Our verification team reviews the submitted documents for completeness and authenticity. If anything is missing, we contact the provider to request additional information.
- External Checks: We cross-reference documents with issuing bodies, the DBS Update Service, the CQC register, and other official sources as appropriate.
- Decision: Applications are approved, rejected, or returned for further information. Our target turnaround time is 2–3 business days from receipt of a complete application.
- Ongoing Monitoring: Verification is not a one-off event. We conduct annual re-checks of DBS status, monitor insurance expiry dates, and require providers to report any changes to their circumstances.
Our Verification Standard
Every provider on CareChecked meets the same independent verification standard. We do not use tiered systems. All providers on the platform have completed the same rigorous checks including Enhanced DBS verification, identity confirmation, qualification and insurance validation, and reference checks.
What We Do Not Do
It is important to be transparent about the scope of our verification. CareChecked verifies documentation but does not employ carers or provide care services. Specifically:
- We do not conduct in-person assessments of care quality
- We do not supervise or manage care delivery
- We do not guarantee the suitability of any provider for a specific care need
- We do not replace the need for families to conduct their own due diligence
We strongly encourage families to meet providers in person, ask questions, request additional references, and satisfy themselves that the provider is the right fit for their needs before entering into any care arrangement.
Reporting Concerns
If you have concerns about the accuracy of a provider's credentials or their conduct, please report them immediately through our Complaints & Escalation process or by emailing safeguarding@carechecked.co.uk. We take all reports seriously and investigate promptly.
Important notice: CareChecked verifies documentation but does not employ carers or provide care services. CareChecked Ltd acts as a marketplace connecting families with independently verified care providers. All care relationships are directly between the family and the provider.
